Tour of St Luke's Graveyard, Douglas
The graveyard surrounding St Luke’s church is laid out as a Victorian garden cemetery, with orderly rows surrounded by tall trees. Within its walls are buried prominent Cork citizens such as John Arnott and Richard Caulfield. Douglas’ industrial history is also reflected in the grave of mill owner Julius Caesar Besnard. On this churchyard tour you will visit both famous and obscure graves, whose monuments reflect the mortuary culture of nineteenth and twentieth-century Ireland.
