In the summer of 1924, Mrs. Margaret Pearse embarked on a major tour of the United States to raise funds to ensure the survival of Scoil Éanna, the school founded by her son, the 1916 leader Patrick Pearse. In addition to fundraising for the school, she also spoke at rallies and meetings organised to raise financial support for Éamon de Valera and the anti-treaty cause. This illustrated talk by Brian Crowley, Curator of the Pearse Museum, will draw on an amazing collection of photos taken by her travelling companion, Anna Smith of Brooklyn, and a fascinating diary Smith kept of their adventures which took them from the copper mines of Butte Montana to the movie sets of early Hollywood. Booking advisable at 01 493 4208 or pearsemuseum@opw.ie.
