  • Hub, Kentstown Village Park
  • Kentstown
  • C15EHT2
  • Co. Meath

In 2025 Brownstown Céilí committee revived the tradition (dating back to 1890’s) of céilí dancing and music on the banks of the River Nanny, which was mentioned in the 1938 Folklore Commission. (video and image documentation will be shown on the night of the event that took place in June 2025).

BCC invites the public to a communal evening of history, storytelling and sharing. Participants will be able to view, listen and discuss submissions from the 1938 Folklore Commission by the school children from the local schools surrounding the River Nanny (Kentstown, Walterstown, Dillons Bridge, Rathfeigh and Yellow Furze).

A brief history of the Folklore Commission will be offered by a local historian, local residents (including local school children) who will read a selection of the submissions followed by an open forum. The general public will be invited to contribute to the conversations, sharing their own reflections, stories and memories.
