On the 21st August 2025 at 6.30pm Dr Ruán O’Donnell will speak on the life of Wolfe Tone at Central Library, Letterkenny, Co. Donegal. Dr O’Donnell is an expert on the history of Irish republicanism worldwide and has researched, written and spoken about the events of 1798 and the life of Wolfe Tone. This lecture will be of particular local interest arising from debate on the capture of Tone aboard the Hoche at Lough Swilly.
Dr O’Donnell is a senior lecturer of the History Department of the University of Limerick. He is a full member of the National Union of Journalists, a Director of the Irish Manuscripts Commission and was a member of the Universities Ireland Decade of Commemoration Committee. Dr O’Donnell’s works include 1798 Diary, Robert Emmett and the Rebellion of 1798, 16 Lives- Patrick Pearse, Remember Emmet- Images of the life and legacy of Robert Emmet, amongst many others.
