The Irish Foundations of Cavan Placenames

Lecture on the place name lore of County Cavan by Seán Ó hUltacháin of Scoil Síleann. The first half of the lecture is a result of Seán spending several weeks studying the Irish names of more than 2000 placenames of County Cavan and the results of his research will be discussed. The second half will be on the topic of the Dinnseanchas records relating to the county. He will detail the stories that are found in this ancient record about local places got their names according to this ancient Irish tradition which goes back over 1000 years or more.
