As part of Heritage Week 2025, this illustrated talk by Seán Corr will present an account of the foundations of the Monaghan Militia, from its formation in 1793, through to its involvement in the suppression of the United Irish Rebellion of 1798 in Antrim and Down. The talk will feature the Muster Rolls of the Monaghan Militia, which are held in the National Archives at Kew, London. They provide a fascinating insight into the names of the men involved, some of the names still common in the county, whilst other are long forgotten. This talk has been organised by Clogher Historical Society with support from Monaghan County Council and the Heritage Council.
