The Cultural Heritage of Our Birds

17 August, 12pm - 1pm

  • Tymon Park Car Park
  • Wellington Lane, Dublin 6W
  • Co. Dublin – South Dublin

A relaxed walk and talk through Tymon Park as we explore the rich natural and cultural heritage of Ireland’s birds. This event brings together storytelling, folklore, Gaeilge and natural history in one of South Dublin’s most vibrant green spaces.
Led by a local naturalist, this guided walk will focus on the birds we’re most likely to see or hear in Tymon—robins, blackbirds, wrens, finches, and maybe even a buzzard. You’ll hear the old folk tales associated with each species, the meanings behind their Irish names, and how their calls and habits have long inspired poetry, omens, and songs.
We’ll also talk about how these birds are faring today and what we can all do to help protect their habitats, whether in parks or our own back gardens. This is a gentle walk suitable for all ages with plenty of stops for stories, listening, and questions.
