Symbols of Ireland in the National Museum's Collection

24 August, 3:30pm - 4:30pm

  • National Museum - Collins Barracks, Museum Reception Area
  • Collins Barracks , Benburb St, Dublin 7
  • D07 XKV4
  • Co. Dublin – Dublin City

Join us at the National Museum - Collins Barracks to explore the many symbols of Ireland, and their origins. The harp is one of the most common symbols of Ireland, which we see on everyday objects such as coins, and the shamrock is synonymous with St Patrick’s Day, but did you know that there are lots of other symbols that designers and artists have used over the centuries to express Irish culture and history?

This tour will explore a range of fascinating Irish symbols through artefacts on display in the Museum. Learn about how symbolism shapes and declares national identity, and how symbols have been used by social and political organisations to express their ideas of what Ireland is.

Tours will begin in Reception at Collins Barracks. Booking is not required. However, places are limited and will be offered on a first-come, first-served basis. Children must be fully supervised by a parent or adult who is in loco parentis.
