St Mullins History Walk

Learn all about the history of St Mullins on a walking tour with Carlow Historical and Archaeological Society. This ancient settlement nestled between the Blackstairs Mountains and Brandon Hill was where St Moling established his monastery in the 7th century.

Today the ruins of five churches can be seen, together with the remains of a round tower, and a penal altar. The churchyard contains fascinating gravestones from the 18th and 19th century, including those of members of the MacMurrough Kavanagh family.

The Anglo-Norman motte and bailey can also be seen, as can the holy well which was visited by thosands during the Black Death in the 1300s.
