Some Jewels From The Charters and Civic Records of Kilkenny
Kilkenny is very fortunate to possess a rich archive documenting the early history of the city. With the sole exception of Dublin, Kilkenny possesses the oldest continuous set of civic records in Ireland dating back as far as the thirteenth century. For centuries housed in the City Archive at the Tholsel, these records are now being digitised and made available to everyone on the Kilkenny Library Digital Archive. This talk with state archaeologist Cóilín Ó Drisceoil will highlight the wealth of material available and explore what the records reveal about daily life in the town and its colourful characters.
