SkyLight 47 Poetry Readings at the Hall of the Red Earl

17 August, 6:30pm - 7:30pm

  • Hall of the Red Earl
  • Custom House, Druid Lane Galway, Ireland
  • H91 XV2C
  • Co. Galway – City

Join Skylight 47 poetry magazine for an enjoyable evening of poetry to celebrate the rich cultural heritage of the West of Ireland.

Poets and co-editors of Skylight 47, Ruth Quinlan and D’or Seifer will be joined by two guest readers, Susan Millar DuMars and beam.

Poet and writer Susan Millar DuMars has been a long-time supporter of the magazine both personally and as part of her role with Over the Edge Literary Events. beam was selected to be one of the poet mentees from this year’s Open Window project, a joint initiative between the Cúirt International Festival of Literature, Over the Edge Literary Events, and Skylight 47.

Each of the poets will read poems that resonate with the themes of heritage: exploring the lore of places, our connection with them and their traditions, Irish myths, and the importance of nature and language. The Skylight 47 editors will also be hosting an open mic as a feature of the event.

The first issue of Skylight 47 was published in January 2013 to celebrate ten years of Galway’s Over the Edge poetry readings in the City Library. Bernie Crawford, D’or Seifer and Ruth Quinlan are now at the helm of the publication, with Nicki Griffin supporting in an advisory capacity.

The magazine celebrated its own tenth anniversary this year with the launching of Issue 17 in May.
