This interactive multimedia social history exhibition linking in with this year’s Heritage Week theme "Connections, Routes and Networks" aims to showcase stories, interviews, audio recordings, photographs, newspaper articles etc from the ‘Radio Carrick’ community pirate radio era, early 80s - which was broadcasted from 13 Dunbane, in Carrick-on-Suir.
The exhibition will give people a window into that era in our Community when pirate radio stations were not just a medium of entertainment but a vital mirror reflecting the unique character and spirit of our town. The interactive nature of pirate radios, with call-ins and dedications, further strengthened the bond between the station and its audience.
Supporting the exhibition will be copies of the ‘Carrick Opinion’ the local Newspaper from that era which also played a a vital platform for local voices. Together encapsulating the very essence of Carrick-on-Suir Community, fostering a sense of identity and belonging among viewers and listeners.
We wish to thank everyone who shared wonderful memories of Radio Carrick and who contributed to the exhibition in any way.
We welcome the community to contribute to the exhibition during Heritage Week.
Through this exhibition we hope to gather authentic material that will become the source material for writers to create an original script for a short drama, a humorous look back on the time of our local community pirate radio station, to be staged in 2025. This Radio Carrick social history project was initiated by writer Mary McGrath and produced in collaboration with the Tudor Artisan Hub.
