The Killorglin Drama Group is hosting a unique full-day workshop to assist a local writer in the development of his new contemporary play, “Two Birds, One Stone”. Members of the public are invited to drop in and stay for as long as they like during the day. A professional theatre director, Dr. Geoff Gould, as well as the writer, Shane Crowley, will lead a cast of members of Killorglin Drama Group in reading the play. Shane is a successful screen writer whose most recent film, God's Creatures, starring Emily Watson and Paul Mescal, won rave reviews at the Cannes Film Festival, as well as in Ireland and the UK. Geoff will take the cast through the process of reading and discussing the work. Be part of this first of its kind Heritage Week event!
It celebrates the fact that the amateur dramatic movement remains vital to the development of many playwrights’ craft and careers.
Following the workshop, a rehearsed reading of excerpts of the play will be performed.
The amateur dramatic tradition was awarded formal State recognition in 2024 and is now inscribed on the National Inventory of Intangible Cultural Heritage.
This project received funding through a joint initiative by the Department of Culture, Communications and Sport and the National Monuments Service, to support practices inscribed on Ireland’s National Inventory of Intangible Cultural Heritage.
