Paddling the Past: A Heritage Kayak Tour of the River Bride

24 August, 2:15pm - 4:30pm

  • St James' Church
  • Aghern, Conna
  • P51 F856
  • Co. Cork County

Join us on Saturday 24th August at 2:15pm for a special Water Heritage Day event as we take to the River Bride by kayak to explore the natural and cultural heritage of Conna from the water.

Before the paddle, enjoy talks by local historians sharing stories of the river's influence on settlement, industry, and folklore. There will also be games and fun on the riverbank at Aghern—perfect for all ages to enjoy while others take to the water.

The guided kayak trip, delivered in partnership with MCG Kayaks, begins at Aghern and follows the River Bride downstream to Conna. Along the way, participants will experience the landscape from a new perspective and hear more about the river’s natural and cultural heritage.

Kayaking is suitable for ages 12+ only, and no prior experience is needed. All equipment and instruction will be provided by MCG Kayaks. Advance registration is required by emailing connacommunity@gmail.com.

To support sustainable travel, participants are encouraged to leave their cars at the finish point in Conna and take the 2:00pm Local Link service to Aghern, arriving just in time for the start of the event.

This event is supported by Conna Community Council, MCG Kayaks, and the Local Authority Waters Programme and is part of Water Heritage Day during National Heritage Week 2025.
