Paddle Through the Past – A Heritage Kayaking Tour
Discover Monasterevin’s Water Heritage by Kayak – family friendly (8 years +)
This Heritage Week, join us for a unique family friendly paddling adventure on the Grand Canal and experience history from the water’s edge. Our kayaking tour offers a fun, family-friendly way to connect with the rich heritage and natural beauty that shaped Monasterevin.
You will uncover stories of old mills, stone bridges, canal locks, and the waterways that once drove local trade and industry. With insights from our Blueway subject matter expert the journey will bring to life how the river and canal formed the very foundations of our town.
Along the route, we’ll pause to reflect on the biodiversity that thrives here today—from the birds and fish of the Barrow to the wildflowers along the canal banks. You’ll also learn about the vital role our waterways play in supporting healthy ecosystems, and how we can protect them through Leave No Trace principles.
Whether you’re an experienced paddler or trying kayaking for the first time, this event is designed to be accessible, safe, and enjoyable for all. It’s the perfect opportunity to spend family time outdoors, discover your local heritage, and create lasting memories with family and friends.
Places are limited, so book early to secure your spot. Bring your curiosity, your sense of adventure, and be part of a celebration that connects our past, present, and future through the waterways of Monasterevin.
