Free access to the remains of the ancient ecclesiastical site of Clonmacnoise, founded by St. Ciaran in the 6th Century.
The monastery flourished and became a great seat of learning, a university of its time with students from all over Europe. The ruins include a cathedral, two round towers, three high crosses, eight churches and the largest collection of Pre Norman graveslabs in Europe.The original high crosses are housed in a purpose-built visitor centre, an audio-visual detailing the long and varied history of Clonmacnoise runs at regular intervals throughout the day, the centre also includes an exhibition on the flora and fauna of the Shannon callows.
Free guided tours will be conducted at 10:00 / 14:00 & 16:00.
