Come along for a Saturday morning stroll around the new 70 MW solar farm in Timahoe, County Kildare which entered commercial operation in April 2025.
An impressive vista of old & new foundations & technologies working together with nature to provide renewable energy to power communities of the future.
The site comprises an amenity walk, which is a 5k loop & has well positioned signage to highlight the interesting aspects of this development which comprises 165,300 solar panels. Learn about bog formation & development & watch out for many native plant species visible on the cutover bog & wetlands which has managed for biodiversity. Hear about the fascinating archaeological finds & artifacts that have been uncovered and the industrial heritage of Timahoe Bog & Allenwood Power station & it’s importance to the social & economic lives of local communities

Timahoe North is the first large-scale solar project that both Bord Na Mona and ESB have brought to fruition as part of their respective renewable energy portfolios.
The site has an export capacity of 70MW of renewable energy to the national grid. This is enough energy to power the equivalent of around 25,000 homes, which will support the delivery of more green energy to communities and businesses across the country in line with Ireland’s renewable energy targets for 2030.
