The town of Mullingar has an industrial heritage going back over three centuries. Mullingar in the 18th century was noted for its breweries, malt houses and flax growing. The Royal Canal Harbour and the Railway Station were industrial zones and saw mills provided major employment in the early 20th century.
Join local historian and author Ruth Illingworth on a tour exploring the industrial heritage of the town. Sites visited will include the location of the saw mills, the railway station, canal harbour and the former breweries and bleach green.
