Malahide Castle Antiques Show and Tell
In May 1976 the collection at Malahide Castle was publicly auctioned and dispersed. Almost the entire contents of the castle were sold, from beds and paintings to tablecloths and the castle’s washing machine! The auction, held over three days drew crowds from far and wide. For many in Malahide it was a rare occasion to step inside the castle, and to purchase a piece of history. Malahide Castle & Gardens are looking to record the stories of those who attended the auction and learn more about the pieces that were sold off. Did you buy something? Whether it was a mirror, or chair, bed linen, or a china set we want to hear from you!
Please join us at Malahide Castle to share your stories. Please bring along any mementos or objects you may have acquired. Or even a photo of them! Our team will be on hand to record your stories and learn from you! We are interested in learning more about the material culture in the castle before the auction, from the big to the little, the metal to the ceramic, the special to the mundane – what stories can these objects tell us about Malahide Castle?
