Killanne - Where Heroes and Heritage are the Foundations of Our Community

This event will delve into the development of the Killanne locality, highlighting how the community has been shaped by its ecclesiastical, rebellious, and sporting past, as well as the lives of the people who lived through these times.

The event will showcase early maps depicting ancient settlements, the story of the Cistercian Monks, the arrival of the Anglo-Normans, the 1798 Rebellion, the War of Independence, the story of Rathnure Hurling, and much more.

Historical re-enactors from various eras will interact with visitors, and weapons and artefacts from those times will be on display. The history of Rathnure GAA Club will be featured through photos, match programmes, and newspaper articles.

We invite people to bring photos and items of local interest to share their stories and memories of times gone by, so we can preserve the unwritten history of the area for future generations.
