Kilcar Invasive Species Project
Kilcar Parish Council has been working with LAWPRO since 2023 on issues affecting the water quality of their local rivers; the Ballaghdoo and Glenaddragh. In 2024 the invasive species along these rivers were recorded and mapped. Following on from this work the invasives species along the Ballaghdoo have been treated in 2025 to remove them from this river catchment. This work was funded by LAWPRO Community Water Development Fund and Donegal County Council Biodiversity Office.
To celebrate Water Heritage Day on August 24th Trish Murphy from The Inishowen Rivers Trust will give a talk on local invasive species and outline how we can manage them. Trish is a renowned expert in invasive species identification and management through her work with Inishowen Rivers Trust and Donegal ACRES.
This event is a great opportunity for landowners to learn about the correct management techniques for invasive species to preserve local biodiversity and prevent further spread.
