Kelp Ink Making

24 August, 11am - 2pm

  • West Cork seashore setting to be confirmed
  • Co. Cork County

with Samuel Arnold Keane
Kelp ink making – We will begin with a seaweed forage, focusing on various seaweeds I use for ink making. We will draw out the pigment using a boiling method, as well as making our own seaweed binder. We will also look at making charred kelp ink, for a rich black textured ink. We will then put the inks to use on natural papers, inspired by the coastline, allowing our imagination to flow. We will include a break with seaweed snacks prepared for participants to taste and drink. Please bring wellies or the courage to go barefoot! A pocket knife or scissors, basket or net bag, a cup, if you have paintbrushes bring some along (will have some brushes and dip pens), and a wee snack that we can add some seaweeds with.
