Join the Dublin Bay Biosphere BioBlitz
🌿 Dublin Bay Biosphere BioBlitz – Saturday, 23rd August 🌿
Get ready to explore, discover, and contribute to science in one of Ireland’s most ecologically rich areas! The Dublin Bay Biosphere BioBlitz 2025 invites citizen scientists, families, nature lovers, and curious minds of all ages to take part in a full day of wildlife recording across the Dublin Bay UNESCO Biosphere Reserve.
Hosted by Dublin City Council, Dublin Port Company, Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown County Council and Trinity College Dublin, this event offers a unique opportunity to observe and document biodiversity at some of the Biosphere’s most iconic sites. Whether you're spotting butterflies, birds, or coastal flora, every observation you record contributes valuable data to help scientists better understand and protect the natural heritage of Dublin Bay. By taking part, you’re not just enjoying nature—you’re actively contributing to real science as a citizen scientist.
This is a self-guided event, meaning there’s no need to check in or follow a set schedule (except for the Dún Laoghaire Marine BioBlitz). Simply head outdoors, explore at your own pace, and record your sightings using the National Biodiversity Data Centre website or app.
If you’d like to meet our teams, ask questions, or get help identifying species, we’ll be present at several featured BioBlitz locations throughout the day—come say hello and get involved!

🧭 What to Bring for the BioBlitz
Exploring the dunes and coastal habitats of Dublin Bay is a fantastic experience—but it’s important to come prepared. Here’s what we recommend:
✅ Essentials
Warm layers – Coastal weather can be unpredictable, so dress in layers to stay comfortable.
Durable, non-slip footwear – Expect uneven, sandy terrain.
Waterproof gear – A rain jacket or poncho is a good idea, just in case.
Water bottle – Stay hydrated while you're out exploring.
🔍 Optional but Useful
Binoculars – Great for spotting birds and other wildlife from a distance.
Field guides – Bring your favourite ID book or app to help identify species.
Smartphone with the National Biodiversity Data Centre website– Essential for recording your sightings!
🚫 Important Guidelines
No dogs allowed – To protect sensitive habitats and wildlife, we kindly ask that you leave pets at home.
Stay on designated paths – Help preserve fragile dune ecosystems and avoid disturbing wildlife by sticking to trails.
So bring your curiosity, explore the Biosphere, and be part of a collective effort to safeguard our natural heritage!
