Partition & the North-Western Railways - And booklet Launch

17 August, 2pm - 3pm

  • Donegal Railway Museum
  • The Old Station House, Tyrconnell St, Donegal Town
  • F94 EE00
  • Co. Donegal

Railway historian Jim McBride will be back in the museum on Sunday 17th August at 2pm for a presentation on Partition and the North-Western Railways. Jim will be known to our followers for the many books he has produced with the museum over the years, including the County Donegal Remembered, Lough Swilly Remembered, Ballycastle Railway Remembered and, most recently, Strabane’s Railways Remembered.

In this talk, Jim will focus on the effect the partition of the island in 1921 had on the railways that operated across what then became a national boundary, including the County Donegal, Lough Swilly, and Great Northern Railways.

As part of the event, we’ll also be launching the 36-page booklet ‘Railway Connections: Stories and Memories from the North-West of Ireland’ produced as part of our recent Shared Island Civic Society Fund project in association with Foyle Valley Railway Museum.
