20 August, 7:30pm - 8:30pm

  • Quaker Burial Ground
  • Hodgestown, Timahoe, Co. Kildare
  • Co. Kildare

In 1704, a number of families from Northern Ireland established a Quaker community in Timahoe, a fertile peninsula jutting into the Bog of Allen. In 1708, a new burial ground had been opened following the death of Elizabeth Milhouse, a senior member of the community.

To date it is the only ancestral burial ground outside the United states that an American President visited when in office. This visit took place in 1970, when Richard Milhouse Nikon unveiled a memorial in the burial ground.

Join local historian Seamus Cullen who will explore the life, trials and errors of this small community in Ireland and also the story of their life in America.
