Join us for a fun and family-friendly Heritage Hunt on Abbey Island, as part of National Heritage Week! This activity is open to all—local families, students, and visitors—who are curious about the stories hidden within our historic graveyards. These sites are more than burial grounds; they connect communities to their past and can inspire future generations.
As you explore Abbey Island, you’ll have the chance to spot and learn about heritage features—both natural and built—that make this coastal graveyard such a unique and meaningful place. There will be small prizes for enthusiastic hunters, and plenty of opportunities to discover local history, culture, and nature along the way.
The SeaCCHange project is behind this event. We’re a research team working with local communities to better understand how climate change is affecting historic coastal graveyards like Abbey Island. We hope this activity helps families and individuals connect more deeply with these sites, appreciating them not just as places of the past, but as part of our living heritage and shared future.
Come along, enjoy the scenery, discover something new, and help explore how we can respond to the climate challenges threatening these remarkable historic places.
We’d love to see you there!
This is a weather-proof activity! You can participate at any time during National Heritage Week by using our online form. The SEA-CCHange team will be onsite on Saturday, August 16th, but the Heritage Hunt is open all week, so feel free to join in whenever it suits you.
If you can’t attend on the day, you’re welcome to visit the site on your own anytime during National Heritage Week and take part using our online quiz form (link will be provided closer to the date).
Complete the Heritage Hunt and receive a digital participation medal:
Gold – 100% of clues completed
Silver – 75%

It’s a fun way to explore the site, learn about local heritage, and spend meaningful time with friends or family.
