Grassroots, What's in a Name

24 August, 2:30pm - 5pm

  • Bracknagh Community Hall
  • Sr Brochans Park, Bracknagh
  • R52CD85
  • Co. Offaly

Bracknagh Heritage Society is inviting our community members to join us in naming the fields that surround us. 'Grassroots, What's in a Name' is a project that will not only document our natural landscape but also seek to explore the deeper meanings and heritage behind these names.

A field name can hold centuries of heritage, from family lineage to historical events, agricultural practices and folklore. Often, field names exist only in oral tradition, passed on from one generation to the next. We are inviting our community to come together and share their knowledge to help us develop this exciting historical record.

We hope to record and document the rich oral history that comes with sharing our field names. Every detail is important to us and will help us build a greater picture. So please do come along, no matter how small or large the piece of information you have, it is all part of the puzzle.
Of course, there will be tea and chats along the way!
