Did you know that seven of the eight provinces of British India were at one point run by Irishmen? Or that Irish soldiers in India once staged a mutiny in protest at the actions of British troops in Ireland?
Have you heard of Annie Besant, the London Irishwoman who became the first female president of the Indian National Congress? Or Margaret Cousins, the Roscommon-born suffragette who moved to India and threw herself into the campaign for women’s rights?
Join us at EPIC The Irish Emigration Museum for a talk exploring two and half centuries of connection between Ireland and India. Presented by Dr Catherine Healy, curator of the exhibition ‘Looking East: Ireland and India’, running on-site from late July until November 2024.
