Exploring Foundations: 'Our Coast at Greenore, its Biodiversity and History'
A discussion format of Q+A of biodiversity and wrecks off the Greenore
coastline. A chance to talk about types of species seen, challenges
with underwater observation, recommendations of publications and films
showcasing marine life.
Alpha Dive S.A.C. regularly dive off the coast of Greenore, to
different locations. Notably – the Blockhouse (a bedrock shelf up to
19 meters deep); S.S. Falavee (a 1942 shipwreck containing general
cargo and bagged flour); and Vidal Rock (a bedrock and boulder slope).
These sites and others we dive to are rich with biodiversity, that
over the years we have recorded observed marine life through citizen
science to the National Biodiversity Centre via Seasearch Ireland. The
club hold clean ups occasionally along the Greenore shore, and have
done several community events including talks over the past few years.
