Irish Uplands Forum will explore the natural heritage of the ancient pilgrim route taken to the summit of Croagh Patrick - exploring the geology, ice sculpting of the landscape, ecology and agriculture, as part of our evolving Heritage StoryMap. This ancient route of the pilgrim path has recently been restored by an expert team, with volunteers, using local, natural materials. We will explore these elements of Croagh Patrick, led by Mary Tubridy - ecologist, Deirdre Lewis - geologist and John O'Callaghan, a member of the path restoration volunteers. We will explore how the Reek formed, how the shape of the landscape guided and connected people to its summit, and how the soils informed the ecology, biodiversity and farming practices over time. There are many ancient routes to Croagh Patrick - join us to learn more about the inter-connections linking the natural and cultural heritage of the Reek. Meet at 11am on Saturday 17th August, at Croagh Patrick Community Cafe in Murrisk at the carpark at the base of Croagh Patrick.

The weather for this outdoor event at Croagh Patrick may be inclement. Patrons are asked to wear waterproof outdoor clothing, sturdy boots and be of moderate fitness. Given the path gradient, it is unfortunately not suitable for people of limited mobility.
