Explore the Built Heritage of the City’s Waterways

23 August, 10am - 11:30am

  • Merchant's Quay, Limerick
  • Co. Limerick

Join us for a family-friendly heritage walk exploring the architectural built heritage within the city’s interwoven waterway systems, including the Abbey River, Park Canal and the River Shannon.

The River Shannon is not only the longest river in Ireland, but it also serves as a central feature of Limerick City. This magnificent waterway enhances the city’s landscape, offering breath taking views while steeped in a diverse history.

Exploring the waterways of Limerick City  offers a peek into the rich tapestry of the city’s history and invites you to celebrate the vibrant culture that has developed since the foundations of the city. From the impressive King John’s Castle, to the industrial heritage of the canal, and the early 20th century flair of the Shannon Rowing Club, each site tells a story that reflects the evolution of the city and connects the past with the present.

The walk will start from Merchants Quay, Limerick City at 10am, and will last approximately an hour and a half. The planned route is on flat ground throughout, and is suitable to all ages.
