A vibrant Market in Connaught Gardens reflecting that Athlone was once a busy market town.
The Athlone Pipe Band are amazing and will parade from the Dean Crowe Theatre starting at 11.50am to reach Connaught Gardens at 12.00pm.
In connection with the graveyard headstones, there will be a small group tour demonstrating how to trace and read old gravestones.
It is wonderful to have the Army Band perform for one hour. So apt for our Heritage Week events "Exploring our Foundations", as Custume Barracks in Athlone is cited as the oldest continuously occupied military barracks in Europe. The wall of the Custume Barracks surrounds Connaught Gardens.
The Trad music will take place after the market, from 4.00pm till late...
This is more than a celebration – It’s a day to enjoy, remember, reflect and reconnect with the stories that shape our identity.
