‘Doon to Diesel’ The social and economic impact of The Great Shannon Loop
A talk by Alf Monaghan
The National Heritage Week theme for 2024 is; ‘Connections, Routes &
Networks’. In line with this, Alf’s talk, will trace the story of the rich transport
heritage of the ‘Great Shannon Loop’- from Jamestown to Drumsna and
surrounding areas, including Kilmore. It follows the ebb and flow of economic
fortunes, from ancient times to the present and the social impact of these
changes in an area with a strategic location - on the River Shannon.
