Connections: From the Morningstar to the Sun Shield

25 August, 2pm - 5pm

  • Lough Gur Visitors CarPark
  • Lough Gur
  • Co. Limerick

A walk from the Binn Liosín Fort on the shores of the Morningstar River in Bruff to Lough Gur where the Bronze Age Sun Shield was found.

Meet at Lough Gur carpark, 2pm. You might like to arrive early and explore the very interesting Heritage centre first.

Bus transfer from Lough Gur to Bruff’s Morningstar where you will meet knowledgeable locals who will answer questions and provide an info leaflet and map of the route.

This event is generously sponsored by LAWPRO, Local Authorities Water Programme for Water Heritage Day and organised by Bruff Tidy Towns.

Return to the Lake at your own pace, learning about our connections to these waterways and the land between along the way. The information leaflet is specially produced for this event and informed by local historians.

Stop for refreshments and stroll if you wish, or step it out at speed.

It is a 7.7 km walk, mostly flat. Good surface the whole way. The route incorporates the ‘Boreen’ or Old Cork Road Slí na Sláinte And thus avoids the main Limerick road. Footpath through Bruff town and Holycross.

From Holycross to Lough Gur the route will be along a quieter country road but will be shared with traffic so some care is advised. Wear Hi Vis if you have it.
