Join us for a guided tour of Maynooth Castle and St. Mary's Church and explore the fascinating connected histories of these sites dating back to the 13th century. Maynooth Castle, constructed around 1200 was one of the largest Norman castles in Ireland, home to the Fitzgerald family, Earls of Kildare, for over 400 years before its dramatic fall. Dating from 1248, the Church of St. Mary's was constructed as the private chapel of the FitzGeralds and was once within the outer edge of the castle's walls. The church contains many layers of history, being modified in the 15th, 17th, 18th and 19th centuries and is still an active parish church to this day.
Meeting point at Maynooth Castle. Limited wheelchair access.
