Cobh Carillon Playing
Carillon recital by prize-winning guest carillonneur Katarzyna Takao-Piastowska, City Carillonneur of Emmerich am Rhein and a member of the Garman Carillon Society. In 2005 she graduated with a master’s diploma from the Music Academy of Gdansk in her native Poland and subsequently studied at the Netherlands Carillon School in Amersfoort and in 2015 graduated from the Royal Carillon School in Mechelen in Belgium. Her husband Toru Takao is also a carillonneur and together they both have widely promoted carillon culture throughout Europe and in Japan.
The 49-bell Carillon of St Colman's Cathedral in Cobh is the only such instrument in this country and is recognised as being one of the finest internationally. The resident cathedral carillonneur is Adrian Gebruers and invited guest recitalists from Europe, North America and Australasia perform regularly programmes of popular and classical music especially arranged for the carillon.
Audiences can enjoy these performances viewing a large screen within the Cathedral are outdoors in the environs of this magnificent building. St Colman's Cathedral, built in the neo French gothic style, is a triumph of architect Putin the Younger and commands a dominating position overlooking Cobh's fine harbour.
