A Celebration of Irish Road Bowling at Ballyvolane House
Join us for a unique celebration of Irish Road Bowling at Ballyvolane House as part of National Heritage Week 2025, themed Exploring Our Foundations.

This special afternoon event will honour the rich cultural tradition of road bowling, particularly its strong roots in north-east Cork. We are delighted to welcome Dr. Séamus Ó’Túama of the Irish Road Bowling Association, who will give an engaging talk on the history, origins, and cultural significance of the sport—especially its ties to this part of the county.

The afternoon begins with a guided tour of Ballyvolane House led by owner Justin Green, offering insight into the history and heritage of the estate. The talk will follow in our rustic barn, and guests will then enjoy a road bowling demonstration on the grounds. To finish, afternoon tea and cakes will be served on the dining terrace.

3:00–4:00pm: House tour with Justin Green

4:00–4:45pm: Talk by Dr. Séamus Ó’Túama

4:45–5:15pm: Road bowling demonstration

5:15–6:00pm: Afternoon tea

Ballyvolane House is a member of the Historic Houses of Ireland (HHI). HHI is an association representing Ireland’s privately owned historic houses. These include country houses, castles, and estates that are of significant architectural, cultural, and historical importance. HHI supports its members by providing a collective voice, sharing expertise, and promoting the sustainable preservation and use of these properties. Many HHI houses are open to the public and play an important role in local tourism, heritage education, and community life. This event is one of many taking place at HHI properties across the country during National Heritage Week 2025.
