The Caherconnell International Furnace Festival is a one-of-a-kind celebration of ancient craft and experimental archaeology, bringing together iron smelters and history enthusiasts from all over the globe. It’s a unique festival where we dive deep into the fascinating process of Iron Smelting, teach ancient techniques, make long lasting friendships and discover the rich history of this craft—while having a lot of fun along the way!
From 10am - 5pm on Saturday and Sunday you will see Iron smelters turn Iron Ore from the bog into workable Bog Iron using the iron age method! This iron will then be passed onto blacksmiths who will turn the Bog Iron into beautiful objects.
This practice mirrors the work which would have taken place in the fort throughout the centuries.
Aside from the Iron Smelters and Blacksmiths. There will be demonstrations over the weekend by Master Bowyer, Jack Pinson and Timber Miller, Fiach Rua Timbercraft.
Supported by the Burren and Cliffs of Moher UNESCO Global Geopark
