Back from the Booley is a glorious, riotous celebration of the cultural and natural heritage of Hilltown, Co Down. We celebrate the ancient custom of the Booley, when families moved out to live in the mountain pastures, along with their dairy cows, during the summer months.

This tradition of transhumance to gave rise to an alternative mountain culture of dancing, storytelling, music and socialising round the evening campfires, away from the strict social code at home in the lowlands.

So join us in the hills for a last summer fling before the harvest. With more than 60 free events... Let's Booley!

Back from the Booley rural heritage festival takes place from Friday August 23-26th.

It has everything from making stone age flint arrowheads to matchmaking, from gathering potatoes to panning for gold.

And the whole festival will be filmed and documented by volunteers and the footage used to create a new docu-film that will be screened in the autumn.

There are more than 60 free events for families, with a few ticketed events in the evenings. See a full interactive programme on your phone at https://online.fliphtml5.com/ydgpq/xpcj/ or scan the qr code on our image.
