Archaeology & Geodiversity of Fairy Castle Hill, Dublin Mountains

Irish Uplands Forum (IUF), the Dublin Mountains Partnership (DMP), and the Dublin Mountains Community Archaeology (DMCA) project team are delighted to jointly present a guided walk and talk to Fairy Castle on Two Rock Mountain in the Dublin Mountains, to examine the geology, archaeology, biodiversity of this monumental landscape, where both natural and built heritage are at risk due to a number of pressures.

IUF Geoscientist, Deirdre Lewis will guide us on the landscape heritage, while archaeologist Wayne Malone from the DMCA project will explore the complex cultural heritage of the site. This event will be supported by DMP Volunteer Rangers. Join us in this joint exploration of some of Co. Dublin's most iconic landscapes and monuments, to see how we can better understand the risks they face and how we can protect them. Pre-booking is essential.

1. Event round-trip will be c. 3km and 2 hours on solid mountain trails. This will be a gently-paced walk with lots of stops for short discussions with the walk leaders. Participants of moderate fitness are advised to wear walking boots and bring a raincoat/ fleece in the event of adverse weather. Note, this event will be cancelled if a Met Eireann Orange Weather Warning is in effect.

2. Dublin Mountains Partnership will run a free bus from Carrickmines 'Park & Ride' (for those using public transport) at 6.30pm, to bring participants to Ticknock Forest park. Alternatively, participants can meet at 7pm at the trailhead in Ticknock’s Upper carpark. The bus will bring all event participants to the walk starting point on Three Rock Mountain.
