A Night Out With The Stars!

13, 20, 21 August, 11pm - 11:45pm

Sandymount Heritage

  • Manor Hotel Car Park
  • Abbeyleix
  • R32 VE24
  • Co. Laois

We regret that all three of these sessions are now fully booked and that we cannot take any more enquiries.

Come and look upwards and outwards, into the great unknown amid the natural dark sky setting of Abbeyleix Bog in County Laois.

Your guide will show you how to explore the heavens without the need for expensive equipment or undergoing Astronaut training!

Learn about how to spot stars, planets, galaxies, nebulae plus other objects in the night sky over the course of this two-and-a-half hour workshop.

This event is aimed at family groups in particular that are perhaps taking their first real look into the heavens and are looking for a family friendly and entertaining, as well as educational experience.

Please read before booking:

This is obviously a late night/early morning event so please be aware of this if you are bringing young children.

Ignore the finish time above! When uploading events to the NHW website, the drop-down menu won’t allow later finish times than 11.45 p.m.

We aim to be back at the Car Park by 1.30 a.m. (Irish Time!), although it is not uncommon to finish later than this…

Numbers are limited, so early advance booking is essential owing to the nature of the event.

Bookings can be made either by email at: sandymount.heritage@gmail.com or by calling 087-1737852.

This event is obviously dependent upon the weather conditions in the Abbeyleix area that night.

If conditions are not suitable, then regretfully, the event will have to be cancelled. Please bear this in mind before booking.

All participants must wear appropriate clothing for a night time event as well as sturdy boots due to the fact that it will take about twenty to thirty minutes to walk from the Hotel Car Park to the observation site, along the Boardwalk (and back again!).

Each participant will also need a torch. They may also bring along binoculars or a SMALL telescope if they have access to these (so leave the Mini-Hubble XL300 Max at home!).

Any queries? Please do get in touch.

We look forward to seeing you there!
