Our proposed heritage week events deliver a series of socio-cultural cross community heritage walking events over 5 days involving local community organisations in Myshall, St. Mullins, Tinnahinch, Borris, Bagenalstown, Leighlinbrigde, Carlow Town, Athy continuing along the road to Bangor, Co. Down.

With the support of Carlow County Council, Carlow Sports Partnership and Carlow Tourism, the purpose of the series of walks is to encourage all communities to connect and reconnect with each other through their shared cross-cultural heritage associated with Saint Columbanus on his journey along the Columban Way from Mount Leinster to Bangor, Co. Down.

The aim and purpose of our project aligns with 2024 National Heritage Weeks theme of Connections, Routes and Networks encouraging communities to explore the links between people and communities, to look at what brings us together and what connects, which in our case focuses on the Columban Way North/South route thereby providing opportunity for communities to become involved and to make or strengthen that connection.

Our event commences in County Carlow during National Heritage Week 17th– 25th August and finishes in Bangor, County Down on the 21th September 2024.
Heritage Week provides a valuable opportunity to share the story of Saint Columbanus and the Columban Way with communities, providing opportunity for participation during the schedule of events.

A phrase we use as we continue our work on the Columban Way is Ni Neart Go Cur Le Cheile – There’s no strength without working together
