A heritage walk through the hills behind Rossnowlagh, Donegal.
The Rossnowlagh Ramblers and archaeologist Franc Myles will walk the quieter backroads of Coolbeg, Cashel, Rosscat and Killinangle, exploring the history of human settlement in this hilly landscape which dominates the beach at Rossnowlagh. The drumlins, ridges and fields retain many archaeological monuments from pre-historic tombs, to large hillforts and raths, to the cutting of the railway in 1905. We'll explore these monuments and the continual development of the historic landscape, and hopefully talk about the people who lived more recent lives in the farmsteads which survive along the walk as ruins and clachans.
The walk will take approximately three hours over narrow country roads and strong boots and a reasonable level of fitness are required. Please dress for the weather! Light refreshments will be provided by the Rossnowlagh Ramblers after the event.
