
A Children's Tour of Lonehort Battery, Bere Island

Celebrate National Heritage Week’s Wild Child Day with a guided tour of Lonehort Battery, Bere Island for children of all ages and their parents/guardians. Lonehort is the largest of seven gun batteries on Bere Island constructed during the early 1900s and was in use during World War One. The battery is surrounded by a deep moat and accessed by a bridge.
Island tour guide and historian Barry Hanley will lead the tour around the battery and its two large coastal artillery guns, there will be lots of fun activities including a heritage scavenger hunt and the change to see a variety of wildflowers and butterflies that have also made the battery their home.
