A Celebration of the O'Rourkes
The O’Rourke family have a long legacy, and their story is woven into the landscape of Leitrim, Sligo and Cavan, where they once reigned over what was known as the Kingdom of Bréifne. As one of the leading dynasties of medieval Ireland, they played a pivotal role in shaping the Ireland we know today.
Join us at the Glens Centre in Manohamilton on Saturday, August 16th, at 19.30 for a special FREE Heritage Week event as we dig into the story of the O’Rourkes and medieval Ireland.
Seamus O’Rourke, an award-winning actor, director, storyteller, and, most importantly, an O’Rourke himself, will start the evening with tales and reflections from his Leitrim upbringing. This will be followed by a lively discussion about the historical O’Rourkes and their impact on Leitrim and Ireland, with leading experts Dr Kieran O’Connor and Dr Seán Ó' Hoirebhárd, who will be in conversation with archaeologist Neil Jackman. You can join in the conversation during the question-and-answer session at the end of the discussion.
