Cliadhbh O'Gibne from the Boyne Currach Heritage Group will demonstrate the ancient art of constructing a hide-covered boat using natural materials and techniques.

When the first farmers arrived in Ireland more than 6,000 years ago, how did they travel and what items did they bring with them? Current research has confirmed that strong cultural connections and affinities existed between the first settlers in Sligo and the farmers of the Brittany region. By building a currach we will explore the practical issues involved in such a journey: what kind of boats were used to transport the colonists, cereals, livestock and beliefs across the ocean to Ireland.
