John Turpin is former Professor of Art History and Director of the NCAD and author of the recent, highly-acclaimed History of the Royal Hibernian Academy of Arts (Lilliput Press, 2018).

This talk by the Royal Hibernian Academy's historian traces its development from its foundation in 1821 through the destruction of its original Lr Abbey St premises during the Easter Rising to its establishment at its present location at 15 Ely Place. The RHA's annual exhibitions feature leading Irish artists. It also encourages young artists, administers a prize fund and runs extensive education programmes.
