Landed Estates Database presentation relating to Longford & Westmeath

Details of Big Houses and Landed Estates of Counties Longford and Westmeath have recently been added to the well-established Irish Landed Estates database (https://landedestates.ie/) hosted by the University of Galway. This database acts as a signpost for those researching the history of landed estates in Ireland, especially highlighting any collections of estate papers that may be available in archives or libraries.

Marie Boran & Brigid Clesham discuss the sources they use to construct the database entries and highlight the elements of those entries. In particular, Brigid outlines the valuable insights that can be gained if one is lucky enough to locate archival sources for a particular estate.

Community and academic historians, genealogists, engineers, those in the legal profession and many others use the Landed Estates database to locate other useful sources and we hope the inclusion of the Longford and Westmeath estates will prove useful to those researching on that part of Ireland.
