Hidden Heritage: Discoveries from the Celtic Interconnector Project Webinar

  • Online

Join EirGrid's Heritage Week online event to explore the archaeological investigations and discoveries during the development of Celtic Interconnector project, the subsea cable connecting Ireland and France.

As part of the project, extensive archaeological investigations were undertaken onshore and offshore to better understand, protect and preserve the cultural heritage encountered. These investigations have provided valuable insights into Ireland's rich archaeological landscape and maritime heritage, highlighting how major infrastructure projects can contribute to our understanding of the past.

Hear directly from the archaeologists involved in this work as they share findings from investigations carried out along the cable route and landfall. Dan Noonan & Associates will present an overview of archaeological remains identified on land, while Coracle Archaeology will discuss the intertidal and underwater surveys and discoveries made beneath the sea.

This event will showcase the important role archaeology plays in informing the development of critical national infrastructure, and highlight how archaeological expertise and infrastructure development can work together to ensure our cultural heritage is understood, respected and protected for future generations, while delivering the projects needed to support Ireland's transition to a cleaner energy future.

Whether you have an interest in archaeology, local history, heritage, or Ireland's energy future, join us to explore how the Celtic Interconnector is helping to connect both people and places through time.
