Submissions Now Open for National Heritage Week 2025

National Heritage Week 2025 is officially underway, with heritageweek.ie now open for submissions of events and projects.
National Heritage Week 2025 is Officially Happening — Submissions Now Open!
Now in its 20th year, National Heritage Week continues to be one of Ireland’s largest cultural events. In 2025, it runs from Saturday, 16th August – Sunday, 24th August, and it brings together communities, families, and individuals across the country to celebrate Ireland’s rich and diverse heritage.
Exploring Our Foundations – The 2025 Theme
This year’s theme, “Exploring Our Foundations”, invites us to reflect on the legacies of our past and examine the foundations upon which our communities, cultures, and identities are built. Organised by the Heritage Council, the theme encourages event organisers and participants alike to dig deeper — literally and metaphorically — into the layers that shape our understanding of place, tradition, and change.
From ancient settlements and early industries, to the evolution of traditions, beliefs, and ideas, “Exploring Our Foundations” provides a framework to engage with the many threads of our natural, built, and cultural heritage. It offers an opportunity to uncover stories of place and people, fostering a deeper connection with the past and how it continues to inform the present.
What Events or Projects Can I Register?
You can register any type of event or project for National Heritage Week.
In-person events may include walking tours, lectures, exhibitions, craft workshops, film screenings, or other interactive activities.
Digital projects can range from podcasts and videos to online exhibitions, blogs, social media campaigns, or dedicated websites.
The Heritage Council has developed a Event Organisers Guide to help event organisers get started including tips from previous event organisers and ideas for events.

What Do I Need to Know Before Registering an Event?
Before registering, please consult the official guidelines for National Heritage Week events and projects.
All submissions must demonstrate:
Heritage value: Focus on a specific aspect of Ireland’s natural, cultural, or built heritage.
Awareness/Educational value: Help people learn about or engage more deeply with our shared heritage.
Interpretive integrity: If your event is commemorative in nature, it must be grounded in fact and present a fair and respectful interpretation of history.
Once your event or project meets the criteria, have all relevant information ready before starting the registration process.
